In 2013 the Doha Film Institute launched Ajyal, a major event for the region that means ‘generations’ in Arabic. The invites were my first major project at the festival. I needed to showcase Ajyal’s brand new identity, inspired by a kaleidoscope and designed by Saffron in London. But I also wanted to create a sense of intrigue and excitement for its upcoming galas, ceremonies and debates. I ended up creating a series of invites that were layered, playful and sophisticated – with each design being distinguishable by its illustration and colour. The project was ultimately staggered over three phases. I created a prototype, developed the rest of the suite, then adapted each one into a HTML email.
